Funding & Markets

Valuations, funding rounds and price cuts read like business news, but they decide which tools survive and what they will cost next year. A price war makes today's agent cheap, and a failed round can make it disappear. Following the money gives engineering leaders early warning on vendor risk, and shows what AI spending returns.

Our analysis

12 June 2026 No AI? We can't code any more! When one team's token cap hit, development ground to a halt entirely. If AI dependency is now a single point of failure, it deserves the same business-continuity thinking as any other critical vendor. Infrastructure & ComputeFunding & Markets 16 March 2026 Are AI projects really failing? Failure rates from 45% to 95% aren't contradictory; they're different yardsticks measuring different things. The real question is whether the way we judge AI's success was ever fit for purpose. Productivity & LabourFunding & Markets

Key numbers

83% of surveyed large organisations spent at least $3 million on supply-chain planning automation, including AI

Gartner surveyed 243 senior leaders globally at organisations with at least $500 million in annual revenue from 11 November to 18 December 2025. Its September 2026 release reports that 83% had spent at least $3 million on planning automation. Spending includes AI and other automation, so the entire amount cannot be attributed to AI alone.

£958M in annual personal spending on workplace GenAI tools is estimated for British workers

Deloitte estimated workers' annual personal spending on GenAI tools used for work at £958 million. Its inaugural UK GenAI Workforce Survey collected responses from 25,000 workers between 7 May and 10 June 2026. The figure is a survey-based annual estimate, rather than an observed total of subscription transactions.

90% of finance leaders using AI report a positive return on investment

Salesforce's CFO Priorities Report surveyed 865 finance leaders in France, Germany, Japan, the UK and US on 4–15 May 2026 using a double-blind design. Among those already using AI, 90% reported positive ROI. The figure excludes non-users and reflects leaders' assessments, rather than independently verified financial returns.

~8 months to meaningful ROI is reported by organisations that have fully deployed AI agents

Salesforce surveyed 2,025 agentic-AI decision makers across 20 countries on 14–28 May 2026. Among the 30% who had fully deployed agents, reported time to meaningful ROI averaged about eight months. The timing is self-reported and conditional on deployment; it is not a guaranteed payback period for a new project.

67% of organisations spend more than $250,000 a month on AI

Harness found that two thirds of organisations already pass $250,000 in monthly AI spending. Sapio Research fielded the survey in May and June 2026 among 700 engineering leaders and practitioners at organisations actively using AI or LLM services across the US, UK, France, Germany and India.

20% of organisations now spend more than $1 million a month on AI

One in five respondents to Harness's 2026 survey said their organisation had crossed $1 million in monthly AI expenditure. The sample comprised 700 engineering, DevOps, IT operations and executive respondents whose employers were already using AI or LLM services.
