The New York Times sues Brave, alleging it resells scraped journalism to AI companies

The New York Times has sued Brave Software for copyright infringement in the Southern District of New York. The complaint alleges Brave copied its journalism into a search index of over 30 billion pages and sells access through the Brave Search API to AI companies, naming Anthropic, Perplexity, Mistral, xAI and Cohere, for training and retrieval. It also alleges Brave offers products designed to get around publishers' access controls. These are allegations, and Brave has yet to answer them in court.

Anthropic adds server-side message threads to the Claude Messages API in beta

Anthropic has put message threads into beta on the Claude Messages API. The API keeps the conversation on the server, so each later request in a long conversation or agent loop sends only the new messages, which Anthropic says lowers time to first token. A thread expires 5 minutes after its last request and is deleted no more than 1 hour after its last use. Threads work on the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry.
